Christopher Tappel, PsyD, Resident Psychologist

  • Resident Psychologist, UT

Bio

I received my bachelor’s degree in philosophy from L’Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum in Rome, Italy. Following my undergraduate program, I completed my Masters and Doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology at the Institute for the Psychological Sciences at Divine Mercy University, in Arlington, Virginia. My final year of school brought me to northern Utah, where I matched to my predoctoral internship at Solstice Counseling and Wellness in Heber City, continuing my training in psychological assessment and diagnosis, as well as individual and family therapy.

During graduate clinical training, I gained a broad range of competency in both assessment and psychotherapy in private practice and school settings. My assessment experience has included neuropsychological, educational, and pre-surgical evaluation, as well as testing for mood disorders, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and autism.

At the beginning of my training, I envisioned a clinical future providing traditional psychotherapy, but quickly came to discover and deeply appreciate the valuable, often complex work of psychological assessment, and the need for competent clinicians capable of helping people to understand and put together the often nuanced puzzle pieces of the human mind. I believe a trusting and secure connection is the foundation on which we build our work towards insight, growth, healing, and personal flourishing. In both therapy and assessment, I aim to take a unique and personalized approach with every individual client to help find relief, resolution, and a way forward towards the progress each client desires.

Good psychological assessment is often compared to a roadmap that lays out the steps ahead. In my assessment work, I aim to work together with my clients to chart the right course and orient them towards deeper insight, emotional healing, more functional behaviors and coping, healthy self-esteem, and freedom from the things that hold them back from living life as they were meant to.

When I’m not on the clock, you can find me hiking up or skiing down a mountain, laid out in a hammock with my latest book, batch cooking a new recipe in the kitchen, plotting my next dive trip, or enjoying game night and movies with close friends.
